Dear Editor,
Here is an incident of terrible exploitation of small miners by an all-fancy super rich miner. A small miner paid this all-fancy, richest gold miner in Guyana and perhaps the largest landowner in Guyana (whose identity I am sure all Guyanese know) one million dollars in October 2016 to mine a parcel of land that was rented to him. He spent millions to prospect the land, and spent millions to move his equipment onto the land and then spent millions more to start mining the land. The small miner eventually ‘bore’ some gold and went and paid this all-fancy, super rich landlord the amount of gold they agreed he would pay as rent, he also told the all-fancy super rich landlord the amount of gold he was ‘washing down’.
Before December 2016, this all-fancy super rich man forcibly evicted the small miner from the land with the help of GGMC officers. A group of heavily armed men working for the all-fancy, super rich guy went to the small miner’s camp, forced him to stop his dredge and cut down his box. They then threw him off the land. This is despite the man paying a million dollars up front and then paying the all-fancy super rich man the agreed amount of gold per month.
Small miners normally whisper about these incidents because they are afraid of victimization. We small miners depend on large miners to receive land to work, so we could not speak out before, because the large miners would simply deny our request to work on their lands. Things are beginning to change now because we can now get land to work from the government instead. What actions shall the GGDMA take against this all-fancy rich landlord? Please note I used the term ‘all-fancy’ to indicate that this guy is indeed all-fancy with the way he uses wealth and power, so the term “all-fancy’ is appropriate.
Small Miner
