A 39-year-old nurse was remanded to prison until March 8, by Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan over a 13-pound cannabis sativa (marijuana) find.
Suzette LaFleur of Lot 141 Cumberland, East Canje Berbice, pleaded not guilty to the charge which alleged that on February 26, she had six kilograms, 216 grams of marijuana in her possession at her home for the purpose of trafficking.
She appeared yesterday in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts.
The mother was represented by Attorney Paul Fung-a-Fat who told the court that he had no special reasons to contend. Police Prosecutor Deniro Jones told the court that an analyst report is still outstanding from the case file.
The Chief Magistrate subsequently transferred the matter to the Reliance Magistrate’s Court.
Based on reports, police ranks during a raid arrested LaFleur and her 18-year-old daughter after finding the illicit drug in their home. According to reports, the marijuana was found wrapped in six parcels. At the time of the search only the woman and her daughter were occupying the house.
