Dear Editor,
The current parking meter fiasco brings to the fore what a lot of persons have said at various levels and through various mediums, and that is, that the person who was hurriedly appointed to carry out the duties and responsibilities of Town Clerk of Georgetown in 2015, and who currently does so, is not the right person to do so.
The requisite qualifications which were expressly stated in the job specifications necessitate the candidate for the position to be a qualified Attorney at Law or at the least should be qualified and experienced in the field of law. An education on communications does not count. The current office holder even though he shouted from the roof tops that his predecessor was not qualified, himself may not suitably be qualified as he possesses neither legal nor administrative credentials as is required.
Equally worrying is the fact that he has little or no administrative experience, and has been shifted from supervising a tiny public relations section with a handful of staff members to now being responsible for administering close to a thousand workers. That is just unacceptable.
The icing on the cake however is that without the Local Government Commission, he seems not answerable to anyone, least among which are the City Councillors to whom he has shown total disregard.
With the central government purportedly taking a hands-off approach to local authorities, this gentleman has become a one-man act and his actions may take the entire city down with him. However, persons cannot say that they were not forewarned, as for many years the previous Mayor used to complain to anyone who would listen as to the proclivities of the certain people and as to their unsuitability for public management until he got tired and decided to heed to the popular adage “If you can’t beat ‘em join ‘em” Something needs to be done and done soon about removing this square peg from the round hole in of our capital.
