Two teenagers who escaped from the New Opportunity Corps (NOC) located at Onderneeming on the Essequibo Coast, Region Two on Friday, have no choice but to stay at the facility for a longer period of time.
Yesterday, divisional commander, Khali Pareshram said that charges against the two teenagers will be laid during this week.
Chris Charles, 16, of 34 Friendship, East Bank Demerara (EBD) and Noel Husbands, 16, of 667 La Parfaite Harmonie, West Bank Demerara, escaped from the correctional facility sometime between 17:00 and 19:00 hrs on Friday. The two teens were sharing a cell along with another inmate.
Husbands was arrested around 10:40 hrs on Friday at Onderneeming, while Charles was subsequently recaptured around 21:00 hrs on Saturday at Adventure village.
Kaieteur News was informed that Charles was sentenced to two years at the juvenile family in March last, for simple larceny, and Husbands was sentenced to one year for damage to property.
According to information received, one of the female guards at the facility was doing patrol duties on Friday night when she observed that a grill was ripped out. Upon checking, it was discovered that the two teenagers were missing. The matter was immediately reported to the police and a search was launched, resulting in the teens being apprehended.
