Investigators are looking for two females who allegedly walked into a yard at Lot 283 Goed Intent, West Bank Demerara and set the home of popular disc jockey, Dorrel “DJ Magnum” Romeo, on fire.
The two-storey property was completely destroyed by a blaze that started sometime around 23:40 hrs on Sunday.
According to information received, a car pulled up in front of the property and two “slim-built” women exited the vehicle and walked into the yard after which the car drove off.
Residents in the area said that the ladies spent a few minutes at the property and then the car returned for them. Shortly after they left, smoke was seen coming from the property. By the time firefighters arrived at the scene, the house was already destroyed.
Romeo in an interview said that he was not at home when the fire started and was informed of the tragedy by a number of persons via phone calls. While he could not say who could have started the fire, Romeo, who described himself as a “controversial DJ” said he had numerous “run-ins” with a number of persons, both males and females.
Asked whether the suspects could be bitter exes, Romeo said that a possibility exists, but he will only provide names to the cops once he has enough evidence.
“It could also be people who think they’re in a relationship with me.”
He indicated that he experienced clashes with persons at the last two shows he did in Georgetown last month, and cited that it could have also been as a result of that too, but said that he would not point fingers at anyone.
Romeo was the only occupant of the house that was owned by his grandmother.
Only last Tuesday, a Covent Garden, East Bank Demerara resident set his two-storey house on fire after his wife consumed kerosene to escape from domestic violence.
The suspect is likely to be charged once the investigation is completed, since he claimed that it was an electrical fan that caused the fire, although his wife and children have insisted that he set the house on fire and had previously threatened to burn the property.
Last Friday, an eight-year-old boy and his grandmother managed to run out of their Caneview Avenue, South Ruimveldt, Georgetown home just in time after a fire erupted in the upper flat of the property.
