Dear Editor,
I am writing to bring attention of the fraudulent practices of a certain lawyer practicing in Guyana. My parents and I have also been victim to what we believe was a deliberate attempt to sabotage a court issue when this attorney was our legal representative and failed to reveal that he/she had a close and long-standing relationship with various family members of the defendants in our case. My parents and I fired this attorney as our lawyer in May/June of 2016 and received a full refund of all the money we paid him/her for services regarding this case. However, this lawyer’s actions have put us in a situation where there is nothing else we can do to further our case in the courts. We feel that it was always the intention to sabotage our case.
At that time, we believed that there was no legal recourse to address our grievance with the attorney and we were worried that due to the influence and position of lawyers in Guyana (family members of the defendants in our case were also influential in Guyana) any further legal action on our part would lead to additional problems for us. We were also worried that no one would believe our story due to this lawyer’s position as one of the big wigs in a certain organization.
After there was talk in the air about this lawyer and realizing that we are not the only people who have been taken advantage of by the attorney, we are now preparing to file a complaint with the Guyana Bar Association. Further, we feel that it is important for us to also go public with our ordeal. I have a tape recording and other documentation to validate our accusations against this lawyer and we would like to share our story and evidence with this newspaper.
Please let me know if you are interested in interviewing me (my parents reside overseas but I am their legal power of attorney) for more details concerning our complaints. I have not contacted any other newspapers, so I would really appreciate your prompt response to know if I should contact other newspapers. I fear if I sign my name, the lawyer can sue your newspaper since the lawyer can say that he/she is the attorney that I am pointing to because he/she was in fact our lawyer. So I cannot put my real name to this published letter. But it is enclosed with my telephone (cell) number.
