The police are seeking legal advice to aid them in the case involving an allegation by a young woman that she had been raped by a soldier in the presence of two of his colleagues, who also attempted to have sex with her.
The 18-year-old woman was only allowed to leave after other army personnel at Camp Stephenson, an army base at Timehri, East Bank Demerara (EBD), intervened.
Kaieteur News was informed that the three soldiers have been released into the custody of the Guyana Defence Force (GDF).
The army in a statement said that a board of inquiry has been established to investigate the allegation made against the three soldiers.
Meanwhile, this newspaper was informed that the young woman was dating one of the three soldiers and had gone to the base to see him.
Reports are that the base was practically empty since most of the soldier had gone home for the weekend.
According to information received, once at the base, the young woman refused to have sex with the soldier, she was dating, since two of his colleagues were there. Nevertheless, she was forced into having intercourse as the others looked on.
It was further reported that when the first soldier was finished, his two colleagues pulled and tugged at the woman as they attempted to force her into having sex with them.
This newspaper was informed that the young woman reported the matter to the police after she was allowed to leave the base.
