Dear Editor,
This missive here takes the form of an open letter to Mr. Granger. As a citizen of Guyana and like most of us, I am dissatisfied, disappointed, and to a point fed up with the way Government is handling the people’s business. Since you were elected to office as President of the republic of Guyana, optimism and hope among the majority was on the rise. For the first time in many years, I saw Guyanese Indians and Blacks alike, hugged each other and rejoiced and celebrated with each other and together hoped for the best. Our expectations were high.
In my mind, the first sign of trouble came when you started to appoint a school of ex- military officers as advisers and assigned them to very important projects for which they had no experience. This bothered most of the nation, even APNU/AFC members and officials. Even though I have many friends and supporters who are or were PPP members, I am no fan of the former PPP executives and former ministers, however, if the PPP were in Government and had done anything even closely resembling Joe Harmon actions, your Party would have let out a very loud and deafening cry for the removal and the head of someone, yet, you allowed Harmon to remain in his position while the nation collectively demanded his removal.
Mr. President, you rode into office on the backs of the youths of this nation, promising jobs and a bright future. To date, the youths of this nation is still waiting, in fact, we have more youths in prison now than before your government took office. We have youths going to prison for four years over one joint of weed, while former government ministers who stole millions are walking free. You are opening the door for a new party to rise up and win the next election.
Mr. President, your Ministry of Social Cohesion is a waste of time. The Minister placed there and the one before was inept. No effort was made to unite us as a nation of six people. Guyanese have been divided for too long. We vote race in Guyana and not progress. Where is the real effort by your minister of social cohesion, where is it?
Sir, your national policy lack the basic elements for a developing nation. I looked at your resume Mr. President, you are one of the brightest men on this planet. Where is the master plan for our national development? You do not have one in place. What we have is a failed management system with all of the ministers stumbling around like Adam in the Garden looking for his clothes.
The sugar industry is in shambles. We are not blaming you for its current condition, but we look to you for the implementation of a master plan. Your failure to execute on this issue, gives one the impression that it’s pay back to one section of our society. We need to fix the sugar industry as quickly as possible. I know for a fact, a person who is not in Government employ; one of your most trusted advisors indicated he had found a massive market in Europe for our sugar by the metric tons, your advisor brushed him off and nothing happened since
That person has since contacted a Caricom member country and they are in talks; Europe is still on the table.. I can produce documents to this effect. Mr. President you are failing us in a big way. People are fed up. People are ready to vote you out. Your Minister of Security made a statement to the effect that your government could not prosecute people who stole from our nation because the witnesses are scared. Mr. President, here is my take. That statement is laughable. Had I been the president of this nation, I would have fired that minister the same day he made that statement. He should have said that before you were elected and see how many votes you would have gotten.
