It’s back in the ‘pen’ for known convict Andrew Lowenfield.
Lowenfield, who had robbed the No. 50 Gas station at Leeds and tried to rob an elderly resident at Alness, has been jailed for nine years.
Lowenfield, who was recently released from jail after spending a lengthy time on a murder conviction, was on Friday sentenced on three charges.
He appeared before Magistrate Rabindranauth Singh in the Springlands Magistrate’s Court and pleaded guilty to all of the charges.
It was alleged that on Tuesday 17th January while armed with a cutlass and a crow bar, he entered the David Subnauth Gas Station at No. 50, Village, Leeds.
He proceeded to rob 24-year-old employee Sheniza Muniz, called ‘Jenny’, of $17,000. He also robbed 18-year-old Demacus Williams called ‘Skinny,’ a pump attendant, of No. 50 village, of a considerable sum of cash, before
escaping on a bicycle.
Lowenfield was also charged with attempt to commit a felony, to which he pleaded guilty and was also sentenced to three years.
The particulars of that charge as read by Prosecutor Inspector Bernard Brown are that Lowenfield, along with two others, broke into the home of Lalta Mohabeer, 73, of Alness Village, Corentyne.
It was revealed that the victim who recently returned from overseas lives alone.
On the night in question he secured his building and retired to bed. He was aroused by noises on the back verandah.
On making checks, he saw a man, armed with a cutlass trying to gain entry through a window. However the intruder was thwarted by the grill work on the window. Mohabeer then armed himself with a cutlass and went to confront the intruder, but observed two other men trying to break through a door. He raised an alarm and retreated to the front of the house and jumped about 10 feet from the verandah to the ground, breaking his right leg in the process.
He however managed to run to a neighbouring yard and hid, until he verified that the police had arrived. The thieves escaped and Mohabeer was treated at a hospital.
The accused is also before the court on a number of other charges.
