Dear Editor,
I call on the Town Clerk of the Georgetown Municipality, Royston King, to explain his position on the privately operated parking lot, on East Street.
After all, it’s the very Town Clerk who by way of a questionable letter (attached to this letter to the editor) granted permission to Astrolobe Technology Inc. (the said company that signed the first contract for parking meters in Georgetown. Surely, the Town Clerk should be aware that he has no power (absolutely, no power) to act on behalf of the Georgetown City Council, unless an issue is brought before the council for discussion, followed by a majority decision in favor of, or against.
Unfortunately, the controversial Town Clerk seems to enjoy violating the laws that govern the city (Chapter 28:01) and more importantly, individuals’ Constitutional Rights, with impunity. Of course, there’s a preponderance of evidence to substantiate his often times unacceptable actions taken, without the council’s approval. Regarding to the now white elephant parking lot, on East Street, I wish to remind the Town Clerk, the Mayor, and the entire council, that they have an obligation to first consult with residents, and to execute projects that are beneficial for the council, and residents.
In closing, here’s a reminder of how the affected East Street residents feel about the parking lot: “A resident, who has been living in the community for over a decade who has preferred to speak on condition of anonymity said that the Council never held discussions with residents before they implemented the facility. She stated that people are now parking along the road, which is causing traffic congestion on the busy week days. “If you got to go to the hospital and the doctor take six to seven hours to look you after, these means you to pay a set of money just to leave you car in there”, the woman added. Another resident, who gave her name as Akeisha said that she feels cheated and disrespected by the Council’s move. She stressed that City Hall should not go in the area and do as they please without interacting with residents. Inow await a response, or swift decision on the King’s East Street Parking Lot.
