Dear Editor,
Subject: When will the judge rule? When will the Ombudsman report be addressed? I have been following the NBS matter since the CEO & two Managers were first charged in 2007, as well as the case where Mr Arjoon sued NBS which am surprised went on for over 5 years. In your October 4, 2016 issue you stated the judge will rule on November 29 and I, like many others, holding my breath for the outcome. But alas, nothing yet? Can I dare ask why the judge is taking so long?
Can I also dare ask why this Government has not acted on the Ombudsman report after 20 months? Why havn’t they taken heed to recommendations of the highly respected and knowledgeable Dr. Clive Thomas who rightfully also say it is imperative that we pay attention and act expeditiously when the Ombudsman’s office highlights when injustices have occurred. The powerful principle upon which his office was established was to be the protector of the citizen’s rights. We have to ensure that his recommendations are enforced at all times and in whatever ways we can. We cannot appear to equivocate in the face of the rulings otherwise, what is the purpose of his office and having him there? I hope the international community that has ploughed a lot of money into improving the justice system takes note of this grave injustice that seems to have no ending. Justice delayed is Justice denied!
