Dear Editor,
Some of the mines officers are corrupted and some are good. Some mines officers seized two malgum sheets from two crushers and fined the owners three hundred thousand dollars on the spot in Marudi. About a week later the said mines officers wanted to resell the said malgum sheet to the very owner who refined it. Based on the promise made by Mr. Granger when campaigning and what Mr. Trotman told them, the residents bought trucks and crushers to work in Marudi. Some of them even took loans from the banks.
What will happen to them now that Marudi is closed down and at this time of the year? Romanex explored Marudi for about ten years and spent millions of US dollars then left saying that there is not enough gold to pay them. Small scale miners found gold in Marudi since in 1940 and have been working in Marudi ever since; some of them even had claims on Marudi Mountains and around Marudi. Some of them still have claims around Marudi.
There is a certain miner that is fooling the Amerindians and the government. Amerindians are suffering and will continue to suffer if this miner is allowed to work in Marudi. Would this government allow a foreigner to work and take out our gold and have us suffer more? Wake up Mr Granger and Mr Trotman, look after your people first, the same people who helped you to be where you are. Everyday your ministers are making silly mistakes try and correct this one.
The miners in region nine are suffering. Editor, this government made Lethem a town and Mr Granger told the town councillors to generate their own funds. Why then not give Marudi to the Lethem Town Council. They could have rangers in place to regulate things in Marudi and get the same ten percent that this miner will get.
We the miners of Marudi are asking you Mr Granger and Mr Trotman to help us to get to work because GGMC has closed Marudi. At the last meeting with Mr Trotman, the mines officers and this miner at Lethem it was agreed to meet again in Aishalton Village on the first week in December, so that miners can have three weeks to put Christmas on their table. The Minister then said over and over that work must not stop in Marudi. The mines officers came and stopped mines officers from working.
