Dear Editor,
Not since Mussolini and Hitler have you heard a leader make such a speech at an inauguration. History will come to prove the legacy of Trump, but make no mistake that he is a populist leader with the temperament of a “Mad King”. As I listened to his speech, I couldn’t help but notice the deep breaths of distress by Obama as Trump went on to lecture the world on his protectionist stance while leaving no prisoners in the name of humility, civility or class.
We must not lose sight of the fact that Trump’s fuel of power is rooted in the hearts of racist and oppressive factions in America who wish to see themselves as superior beings once again, while grudgingly and heartlessly oppressing the minorities of all colors in this world. And even though I am sounding somewhat extreme, it probably is not that too far-fetched.
On the other hand, we must understand the importance of “cause and effect” and this is a classic case of the word establishment over playing their hands to a point that gave rise to the Trumps of the world. As I write this letter, the sales of Mein Kampf are sky rocketing in Germany, Britain has left the EU, Italy has voted for a protectionist stance, along with many major nations moving towards protectionism. Even though it may not be a bad thing to be protectionist, we must not forget what is causing the rise of it.
The Clinton, Bush and Obama administrations had a moral and ethical obligation to be a stabilizing and equitable force on the international stage while protecting its citizens from the greedy claws of corporate America, but instead they chose not only to asphyxiate the American middle class, they also went on to destroy the global ecosystem in the name of profits and special interest.
Evidence of this can be seen in the rise of ISIS, the so called “Arab Spring”, the overthrow of Governments with social causes and replace them with puppet Governments in the Caribbean, Latin and South America and of course, the Syrian conflict. However they were unable to bring Russia into submission or halt the rise of the Chinese empire which ultimately led to Putin’s support for Trump. This created an ironic situation for America, a country that is not used to holding the proverbial hot end of the stick of democratic manipulation.
Trump has made it clear to the world that everything he does on the international scene will be from the lens of “America first.” This must be cause for extreme concern for the world, because we all know what a selfish America does to other countries. With a mindset that is void of social causes and geared only towards a Machiavellian approach to politics, we should not expect anything but pain and anguish and very little support for the poor and meek.
Guyana is already a prime target for exploitation; the stage has been set by Exxon Mobile as we sit on the platter like a sweet cake to be eaten. Rex Tillerson, CEO of Exxon is the Secretary of State and you can be sure he will be returning to eat his cake and Guyanese will be lucky to even get the droppings.
Those who have eyes will see the battle lines being drawn as the world system heads to reset itself either for total destruction and rebirth or for our sake, a glorious transformation. History has told us that we are most likely heading to the path of destruction. We are entering a period of great uncertainty and anguish and we must stand vigilant and preserve our right to live free of oppression in any form.
