Dear Editor,
Plans go out the window when the first shot of any war is fire? Well, that has certainly been the case since the first day of the Granger administration. Everything they promised the people during the 2015 elections campaign has general been misdelivered or in most cases totally undelivered. I specifically ask the people – Have the decision your leaders in the PNC and PPP made over the last 50 years worked out for the nation?
How has your life as an individual improved because of these political decisions from the PNC and PPP over the last 50 years? Are you any better off because of your political support to either of these two political forces that dominated Guyana all of its independent political life? Would you still stand by the PPP and the PNC today? These are not academic questions. They are but the gist of the problems in Guyana as we peel this onion that inhibits Guyana’s economic transformation to unleash its potential.
We have seen how little reasoning matters when it comes to the maelstrom of this love/hate relationship between the PPP and PNC. At the end of it all, the unintended disastrous consequences from this relationship between the PNC and PPP have been the main cause for the stagnation of the lives of the ordinary people of Mahaica, Mabaruma and McKenzie and many other towns and villages. The people’s chances of living the good life have always been shot to pieces over the last 50 years because mediocre and overrated pig-headed politicians in Guyana just cannot get their game right; just for once for the people.
Today, like old times we find ourselves yet again on the verge of another conflict just because our ruling politicians remain steadfast to this tradition of being politically inflexible about what is the meaning of Article 161 (2) of the Constitution and clearly does not get what “… any other fit and proper person….” means. How hard is it for Coalition leadership to understand that a bona fide Senior Counsel and experienced politicians Desmond Hoyte suggested Eddie Hopkinson (Engineer), Joe Singh (Soldier) and Steve Surujbally (Vet) to be the Chairman of GECOM and none of them were lawyers or potential judges? So the real question is “what the hell do we do now because overrated politicians chooses to divide Guyana even further and will not be around to clean up this political mess they are single handedly creating.
