Jan 13, 2017 Letters
Dear Editor,
I am forced to write to correct the statement in your edition of 31st December that I called a Press Conference the previous day and the “NICIL Chairman was a no show at his own Press Conference.” I wish to categorically state that I was out of the country from 22nd December 2016 to 7th January 2017 and, therefore, could not have told the Press on the 30th December that I was going to be hosting a Press Conference on the 31st of December.
In fact, it was the Public Relations Officer of the Ministry of Finance, Ms. Wanita Huburn, who informed the Press that the Chairman (sic) would be hosting a Press Conference, not realizing that I was out of the country at the time. I was only made aware of the Press Conference the day after it actually took place. A clarification letter, setting out the facts as related above was sent by the Officer-in Charge of NICIL, Mr. Horace James, since the 4th of January, but Kaieteur News has so far failed to publish same.
Since Kaieteur News has now resorted to the practice of name calling and ridicule, I shall be grateful if you would give this letter the same level of prominence as you gave to your misleading article of 31st December 2016.
Dr. Maurice Odle
Chairman, NICIL
