Dear Editor;
I wish to respond to a letter written by Sasenarine Singh in your newspaper dated January 1, 2017 with the caption “APNU+AFC should not trust Tacuma Ogunseye”.
According to Sasenarine Singh he knows that Mr. Ogunseye requested monies from the PPP, that he knows Ogunseye called Professor Thomas “too old” for the job and criticized the Granger administration for not making him head of SARU. He even went so far as to accuse Ogunseye of playing a role in Dr. Rodney’s death. All of these are slanderous statements.
Sasenarine Singh has the right to disagree with Mr. Ogunseye’s defense of the National Budget but he has no right to slander his name. He has now joined the company of Sultan Mohamed, another character who feels that slandering and demeaning the contribution of statesman and revolutionaries will bring them some form of political redemption with those that they seek to curry favour.
I have known Mr. Ogunseye for over thirty years and have the highest regard for his integrity and his selfless contribution to Guyana’s modern political development.
Editor, I was a member of the Patriotic Coalition for Democracy (PCD) from its inception, representing the Anglican Bishop of Guyana and at no time did Mr. Ogunseye’s contribution to the discourse for national reconciliation been anything other than exemplary. Sasenarine Singh should produce evidence to support his accusations
