Dear Editor;
May I take this opportunity on behalf of my family and I to wish the Publisher, Editors and staff of your newspaper a happy and productive 2017.
Editor I wish to make reference to Ms. Amber Valentine’s letter in your Sunday Kaieteur News under the caption “Music carts are a violation of our right to have peace.” In which an appeal is being made to the Mayor and Councillors of the City of Georgetown to take urgent action to have this situation of noise nuisance be addressed.
Indeed this situation has been allowed to exist for too long, notwithstanding the many reports and calls that were made. I wish Miss Valentine call will invoke action by the city council, since many attempts by myself at this very entity has proven futile. Having this result I was able to carry out my own investigation based on the training I would have received into the inactiveness of the City Constabulary to deal with this issue.
To my dismay what I found out during my investigation is that a senior Officer of the City Constabulary is the owner of no less than three (3) music carts that ply their trade around the city. The operators of the cart are allowed to play their music to the highest anywhere and everywhere and dare any member of the City Constabulary to approach or take any form of corrective action since they are fearful of action taken against them by the owner (the senior officer) which includes being verbally abused and the use of explicit language.
Editor what is most disturbing is the fact that this senior officer is the most controversial officer of the Mayor and Councillors of the City of Georgetown hence with this in mind, I, like Miss Valentine would like to see an immediate end to such lawlessness.
However based on what I was able to ascertain from my investigations and my previous attempts to have this situation remedied, I have now concluded that people like myself and Miss Valentine are only flagging a dead horse due to the fact the enforcers are the perpetrators.
