Nickella Wong, 27, a former clerk at Gafson has been accused of stealing over $3M from the company. She was yesterday arraigned before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan charged with two counts of fraudulent embezzlement.
She was granted $100,000 bail on each charge.
The Grove, East Bank Demerara resident was ordered to return to court on January 10.
It is alleged that on August 25, at Land of Canaan, East Bank Demerara, while being a clerk or servant of Gafson Industry Limited, she fraudulently embezzled $2,732,048. Wong, a mother of one, is also accused of fraudulently embezzling $1M from the company on August 26.
She pleaded not guilty to the charges after they were read to her in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts.
The defendant’s lawyer, Folio Richards, told the court that her client has an unblemished criminal record and that she had been released on $100,000 station bail pending investigations.
According to Folio, her client is not a flight risk and has been reporting to police regularly.
