Despite the inclement weather children and adults came out in numbers as the Wismar
Market Vendors Association held its second annual Christmas tree light up on Saturday. The tree is erected in front of the Wismar municipal market.
Chairman of the Association, Keith Hollingsworth, said that the light up is to bring cheers to the residents of the community. “When light up is being done, Wismar is forgotten. Courts do theirs on de Mackenzie shore, BOSAI same thing, so we decided to do ours on Wismar for the people, and everybody is welcome.”
Hollingsworth also noted, that it was done in front of the market so that people can know that the market is still ‘alive’ and that they are giving back to the community for their patronage during the year.
“People leave Wismar and go to Mc Kenzie to shop. We want them to know that everything over de river you can get it on Wismar at competitive prices.”
There was a packed cultural programme chaired by former RDC Councillor Leslie Gonsalves. The session was opened by former Member of Parliament, Vanessa Kissoon.
Gifts were distributed to the children by Santa Claus.
Special thanks were given to First Lady Sandra Granger, Giftland Office Max, B. Harry Lumber Yard, Bolo’s Variety Store, BOSAI, Dave and Celena Variety Store, Bobby Noel General Store and Foreign Links Spare Parts for the gifts and decorations.
Hollingsworth said he hopes next year more companies will come on board so that Linden can have their light up as big as courts or even bigger.
