The Guyana-Jamaica Friendship Association (GJFA) on Sunday presented an Automated
External Defibrillator (AED) to the Suddie Hospital. The New York-based non-profit group had promised the Hospital back in February to help with various projects to aid in the continued development of the Hospital.
President of the GJFA, Dr. Frank Denbow, stated that this is the first step in a programme designed to ensure that the Suddie Hospital is able to fulfill its mandate as the leading hospital in Region Two.
He heaped praise on both Dr. Farah Khan and Dr. Sonia Gray as two young doctors who have been given great responsibilities as Regional Health Officer in charge of Region Two and Medical Superintendent of Suddie Hospital respectively.
They have shown great promise in their work so far. Their enthusiasm has already caught the eye of the IADB project managers who included them in the planning and implementation of the US$8 million project on Maternal and Child Health slated for Guyana next year.
Dr. Denbow also handed over other medical equipment used for diabetes management He promised more equipment next year.
GJFA which has adopted the Mashabo Primary School also donated the exam study booklets entitled “School News” to Senior Teacher at Mashabo Primary School, Moti Beepat, who thanked the New York Charity for their thoughtfulness and opined that the students would benefit greatly from the papers and promised that this would be manifest in their performances academically in the future.
