-S/ Ruimveldt, St. Pius battle for third place
St. Angela’s have set themselves a glorious opportunity to claim both the Girls and Boys titles at the Pee Wee level in the same calendar year if they defeat West Ruimveldt in today’s final of the 3rd Annual Smalta Girls Schools
Football Competition, at the Ministry of Education ground, Carifesta Avenue.
On the other hand, the consistent West Ruimveldt will have the chance to capture their first title at this level should they be able to get past a tough and disciplined St. Angela’s side.
In the playoff for third place, South Ruimveldt will oppose St. Pius and this encounter promises to provide sizzling action for the anticipated large crowd that is expected to converge at the venue.
In the feature clash, St. Angela’s have already shown that they are a steely unit and one just have to look back at their extra time performance against South Ruimveldt, coming from behind as well to qualify for the championship game to understand their toughness.
Once again the spearhead of their attack Nikasie St. Jules will be aiming to duplicate her semi-final display, while support should come from Carlotta Ross, who scored in the previous game as well.
Equally, West Ruimveldt is loaded with firepower and their chances of securing victory will depend heavily on how well players the calibre of Shaqwana Wright, Priscilla Edwards and Gabriella McGarrell perform.
The two teams are evenly matched and a terrific encounter is in the making.
In the preceding encounter, choosing a winner is also proving to be a difficult task with both South Ruimveldt and St. Pius losing close battles in their previous games and must be thinking of ending the tournament on a high note for the earlier disappointment.
St. Pius holds the edge over their opponents, having escaped with a narrow 3-2 victory earlier in the competition with Karen Jupiter and Kerry Boyce, being the goalscorers.
However, Donna Lowe is also in tremendous goalscoring form and she could have a say too.
However, this is a different stage and occasion and with the stakes much higher, anything can happen.
The prolific Raven Jacobs will no doubt be asked to lead their attack, but much more support is needed to deny St. Pius victory.
The Ministries of Public Health and Education are also on board.
