Two more matches on tonight
A late strike from defender Eon ‘Bully’ Pluck was enough to bring victory for the Kwakwani Strikers who won for the second time to beat Net Rockers 3-2 and Botafago triumphing 3-0 against Amelia’s Ward Panthers when the GT
Beer Cup Christmas football championship continued group play at the Mackenzie Sports Club ground Wednesday night last.
The Strikers came from a first loss to win for the second time after taking the lead through Handell Crossman as early as the 7thminute. That goal developed from who was able to cut through and score.
But the Rockers were able to level the scores in the 31st minute through Deshawn Younge, then went ahead as Shane Luckie penetrated to find the back of the net in the 35th minute and put the Rockers in control.
When the first half ended the Rockers were enjoying the lead until the 58th minute when Norville Adrian was fouled just around 20 yards out.
The experienced midfield Shane Adams hit the kick around the wall and another experienced played for the Strikers, Dale Sauers, the alert striker calmly placed the ball into the back of the net from inside the six yards box.
This tied the scores 2-2 and as the battle was on neither side wanted to come away with one point and this saw both teams trying desperately to get the winning goal. It came when in the 78th minute a corner was won by Kwakwani Strikers. Taken by Dillon Clinkett, the ball was sent into the mouth of the goal and the soaring Pluck was able to clear four defenders and head home the winning goal in the 78th minute.
The second game was all Botafago as the Ward Panthers were never in the game and lost 3-0. Botafago took the lead where Jashawn Moore came through and was able to drill home the first goal in the 19th minute. Botafago’s second goal was made with the defenders of the Panthers not able to group up and following the half time break Kellon Primo slid through in the 49th minute to send his team 2-0 up.
Botafago’s third goal was in the 83rd minute as lax defending allowed Shawn Haynes to punish his defenders and score and seal an important win for Botafago.
The competition continues tonight when Eagles United face Milerock at 18.00hrs and Milerock must win to have any chance of moving to the next round, while Eagles are looking to enhance their chances also after drawing their opening game. Milerock comes into this game with two losses.
Unbeaten side Winners Connection on six points after two wins are up against undefeated Botafago who are also on six points after two wins in the night cap at 20.00hrs.
