Dear Editor,
The Granger Government has proven time and time again that they are a government of deception. They say one thing when in essence they are going to do the very opposite, no wonder the economy is on a downward spiral and going fast.
They promised to be a “lean, clean and mean” government but when you look at the statistics there is a staggering difference between what was said then and what is ongoing.
They raised their salaries and emoluments almost immediately on accessing high office, while denying hard working individuals their fair share of an increase.
This was and still is a vulgar deception on their part. Further to our discussion is the fact that all, I repeat all the productive sectors are closing while other businesses are folding up. Why? And the answer comes back to government’s ineptitude in having any structured plans or policies in place.
As someone said, the only viable business that has a hefty illegal profit margin in Guyana is “thiefing.” I used the word “thiefing” because it has that strong Caribbean meaning to it which readily alerts you to the fact; “thiefing” of the worst kind. Gone are the days of “choke and rob” here we are in the throes of the Guyanese “shoot, kill and rob.” So, while the government does their thing of underdevelopment, the thieves are having a heyday with our hard earned savings.
But wait, we are in for another deceptive and clandestine move; the government is giving us an early budget.
While this looks very nice on paper, that is, an early budget in reality it is not. Take a closer look and you will see the hidden deception, an early budget before the fiscal year is up?
This does not sound right and has the trappings of a ruse in the making. The fiscal year really ends in March of the New Year when all the audits of government’s income and expenditure would be in – if audits mean anything to this government. Therefore, to give an early budget is a mockery of what can be called an “accountable and responsible” government.
That means for those months leading up to the end of the fiscal year, where would that money come from, and how must those monies be accounted for? That is the million dollar question that I do not think this government is prepared to answer. A government is answerable to the people they govern.

Everton, come next election you can vote for the PPP and you will never ever again have to worry about “thiefing” nor about “shoot, kill and rob” and even less about the country’s finance. You won’t have to worry about passing the budget in December or March or even during August nor of APNU opposing it either since experience tells us that they prefer to govern without a Parliament. Their track record shows that they can again be the perfect government for Guyana. Unlike the Granger Government the whole country can vouch that the PPP never ever deceive anyone.
Have a little patience and you will be one happy man.
