The Ministry of Social Protection should investigate this church

Dear Editor,
Please allow me a little space to express my disgust at a very sad event that has overwhelmed our social and general media over the past week. The vulgarity revealed at the church in Durban Street is a lesson to be learned by church goers in general and female church goers in particular. Here is a man, calling himself a “pope” and well revered by his followers, taking advantage of his position and influence to carry out sexual acts with the women in the church. What “man of God” would behave in such a despicable manner?
This is a stark reminder of the Jim Jones saga of 1978 which, as those who lived through this period would remember, ended in tragedy that put Guyana on the world map for the wrong reason. I was made to understand that this so-called religious man threatened those women with an order to lure them into his bed. This character also used some sort of charm to impress on his congregation that he deserves all the glory for their good fortunes. How could people be so gullible? Because God is jealous, the dirty lifestyle of this so called “pope” had to be revealed for the world to see that he is dealing in falsehood and blaspheme. The worst may be yet to come for this poor excuse of a human being who is undeserving of dwelling among us. This man has disrespected women in the worst possible manner, and has also used the Bible to promulgate his dastardly behavior by preaching from specific verses purely to promote his self-interest.
It is my hope that the Ministry of Social Protection would intervene and launch an investigation into the operations of this church with the sole aim of preventing a recurrence of this scourge, and to protect more mothers, sisters, wives and daughters from being violated by this hypocrite. This individual has brought shame and disgrace to the female members of his congregation. This is a good place to start rooting out these hypocrites calling themselves “men of God” who just wait for every opportunity to prey on their God fearing targets. There are still those from within the church who are so blind that they see no problem with his behavior. Their turns are in the making. Sodom and Gomorrah awaits them.
