Coalition partner, the Alliance for Change (AFC), is expected to host its biennial National Conference
next year January which will see top positions – including that of the Leader, Khemraj Ramjattan – being challenged.
This conference is pegged to be crucial since it will be the first time the AFC will host its conference after teaming up with the A Partnership for National Unity (APNU) to win the May 2015 General Elections, that saw an end to the People’s Progressive Party Civic (PPP/C)’s 23-year rule.
The Conference will also set the party’s momentum as Guyana is expected to return to the polls in 2020.
Since assuming office, many of the party’s supporters have come out questioning several decisions that were made including that to join forces with APNU.
Many have also made claims that the party is being muzzled and not allowed to share its views – claims that continue to be condemned at many fora by AFC Party Executives.
The conference will not only see Ramjattan’s position being challenged, but also the positions of Chairman, Vice Chairman, General Secretary and Treasurer.
The party’s Vice Chairman and Prime Minister of Guyana, Moses Nagamootoo, dubbed the conference as an historic one. Although the exact day of the event is yet to be decided, it will be held for the first time in a region other than Region Four (Demerara/Mahaica).
He asserted that the conference will be hosted in Region Three (Essequibo Islands/West Demerara).
A National Conference Planning Committee has already been set up and works have already commenced. He added also, that the party’s Regional Management Committee for Region Three is playing in integral role in planning the event.
