-after refusing to have relationship with foreign man
A policewoman found herself in hot water after a man she befriended on Facebook accused her of fleecing him of $68,000. She reportedly refused to be in an intimate relationship with him.
It is alleged that on May 27, at Georgetown, Constable Kizia Hall of Lot 71 Mandela Avenue, who is stationed at the Brickdam Police Station, being solely entrusted by Tiadore Chesney with monies for safe keeping; she fraudulently converted the cash to her own use and benefit.
Constable Hall who was represented by Attorney Nigel Hughes pleaded not guilty to the charge after it was read to her by Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts. She was released on her own recognizance (self bail).
Tiadore was not present for the court hearing since he was said to be out of the jurisdiction.
During a bail application, Nigel Hughes requested for his client to be released on self bail. He told the Chief Magistrate that the allegation against his client is malicious and an act to disgrace her. Hughes said that his client became friends with Chesney via the social media hang.
According to the lawyer, Chesney would from time to time send money for the police rank to buy gifts for herself.
He stated that earlier this year, Chesney, who resides in the United States of America, travelled to Guyana to meet with Hall and requested for them to have an intimate relationship.
However, Hughes pointed out that when the policewoman refused, the Chesney went to the Police Complainants Authority and made the accusation against her.
In addition, the Attorney informed the court that he had written to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) about the matter since the Chesney told his client that he would drop the charges if she complies with his demands.
Police Prosecutor Neville Jeffers made no objections to bail after Hughes disclosed that Constable Hall has an unblemished criminal record.
According to the prosecutor, the case file in this matter is still incomplete since a statement from the investigating rank and another police officer is outstanding.
Constable Hall will make her next court appearance on November 28.
