The PPP/C Government had employed 400 community D&I workers to work 4 days at 4hour/ week to maintain their community. Over $22 Billion were spent in electricity subsides in Linden/Ituni and about $800 million in Kwakwani, over the period. Over $200 million was spent on the agriculture roadway at West Watooka and Moblissa. A total of over $3.2 billion allocated to the Regional Democrat Council for capital projects over the period, which was spent on small projects such as the health centers and the rehabilitation of bridges, etc.
We witnessed the massive housing drive at Amelia’s ward phase 1, 2 and 3 where over 2000 house lots were issued with massive road networks far in comparison to any distribution of house lots to the residents under the PNC Administration. We had installed solar electricity in the entire Amerindian villages in Region 10. The PPP/C introduced the Women Of Worth (WOW) project. This programme was developed to help single parents; in 2013 over 44 loans were issued. There were projects also done under the LEAP program, such as building of the Benjamin Center, Rehabilitation of the Mackenzie car park, enhancement of the greater Mackenzie water front, and many more. Look, even when you calculate average money spent from Government in Linden as per capita, it would have resulted in more money spent in this highly populated PNC supported region area than in any PPP populated area, in Guyana, and take into consideration that the majority of persons in Region 10 have always voted the PNC.
Tell me where was the discrimination in Region 10? The PPP/C did not dismiss any PNC supporter from the Bauxite Company, as they did to some workers who were opposed to them in the 80’s. Guyanese like Cedric Smith could give a good history of that. We did not discriminate; we even made Horace James the C.E.O of Linmine, who is a strong supporter of the PNC and former PNC Regional Chairman. I also recommended Mr. Mingo, former Regional Chairman to chair the Upper Demerara Hospital Board; these are real historical facts, so stop fooling people Dr. Hinds that the PPP/C discriminates against them.
What we noticed happen is that since the split between Dr. Jagan and Mr. Forbes Burnham in 1955, this resulted in an ethnic voting split between Afro-Guyanese and Indo-Guyanese. This racial division as perceived was mostly seen as a cultural habit when it comes to voting, and not seen as a serious racial problem in Guyana. Both Indo-Guyanese and Afro-Guyanese and all other ethnic groups of Guyanese people, worked, played and socialized together. The APNU/AFC Coalition continues to blind-spot Afro-Guyanese to retain their political power. It is time you support the political party with the track record that shows that they have done more to make your life better. I have much more I can write on PPP/C’s development, because the records are there. So you can fool some at times, but not all the time. It is time my people of Region 10, make the correct political decision of support.
