A man who told the court that his friend gave him a gun to hunt was yesterday remanded to prison after he appeared before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan to answer to the charge of illegal possession of gun and ammunition.
It is alleged that Ferdinand Schaddle, on November 2, last, at Omai Landing Essequibo, had in his possession three 12 gauge cartridges without being the owner of a firearm license.
It is also alleged that on the same day in question he had one 12-gauge shotgun in his possession without being the owner of a firearm license.
The 58-year-old pleaded not guilty to both charges when they were read to him by the Chief Magistrate.
His Attorney Stanley Moore told the court that his client has no prior conviction in any other court and resides at Lot 1293 Section C Golden Grove, East Bank Demerara.
Facts presented by Police Prosecutor, Neville Jeffers, stated that on the day in question a search was conducted at the business place of the 58-year-old where the firearm and ammunition were found.
He was told of the offence and cautioned by the police. He told them that a friend named Buddy left it in his possession and he used it for hunting.
The father of two was remanded to prison and will make his next court appearance on January 17 at the Mahdia Magistrate’s Court.
