Major-General Joe Singh is currently investigating the accusations by a broadcaster in Essequibo against two members of the National Broadcasting Authority – Messrs. Tony Vieira and Vic Insanally. One would assume that a taped conversation would have been presented at the inquiry. I have heard the voices on the tape and it is my opinion that the tape is genuine. I have literally grown up in Guyana hearing Mr. Insanally speak and to my mind that is his voice. I believe I know the unmistakable tones
I am not going to comment on the contents of that tape in relation to the two Board members. I do not want to get a libel suit. As a long standing media operative I know very well the immense limitations of this un-free country so I am not going to analyse the contents of the tape. There is just one tiny part that is non-contentious and I will refer to it because it concerns the way people like Bharrat Jagdeo and Roger Luncheon ran Guyana.
Mr. Insanally referred to Alfro Alphonso and said to the broadcaster that Alphonso didn’t go through the board, but the political people. He went on to explain to the broadcaster that Alphonso received a letter directly from Roger Luncheon. This was the way the administration of Bharrat Jagdeo and Donald Ramotar behaved. Today, these very people who administered an incestuous state machinery are running all over Guyana complaining about who the Coalition is employing and who it is dismissing.
Will Luncheon respond to Insanally? The answer is a resounding no. The level of barefacedness is immeasurable. The PPP to date has not even offered half of an apology about egregious mistakes made and the PPP leaders will not. Here is where psychology meets politics. Why would they not want to apologise for blatant wrong-doing?
We can resort to psychology and cite former British Prime Minister Tony Blair as an example. Blair said that he entered the war against Iraq because he genuinely felt that Saddam Hussein had weapons of mass destruction and his decision had nothing to do with President’s Bush influence. For years Blair has been singing that song.
Suppose Blair is right. Suppose in his mind he thought Saddam Hussein was a threat to British global interests. But if we accept the psychology paradigm how can we detect that people like Blair are lying? We will return to Blair in a few paragraphs below.
Donald Ramotar, Anil Nandlall and Hydar Ally have written letters to the newspaper at least once a week since July 2015. For this week end, Nandlal has two, Ally has two. In not even one of those letters, is there a tiny reference to a policy that was obnoxious and there have been regrets. Is it possible that all the PPP leaders believed that during the fifteen years of the reign of Jagdeo and Ramotar they used power in ways that were wholesome and the motive was to do good for the country?
Let’s return to Tony Blair. Blair’s perennial explanation has been torn asunder by the Chilcote Report into the British decision to go to war in Iraq. Making use of correspondence between Blair and Bush, Blair is quoted as telling Bush he would accede to any request. What the Chilcote Report revealed is that Blair went to war as a request for assistance by President Bush. The PPP cabals cannot apologise out of the belief that they did no wrong when the forensic audits showed the colossal levels of illegalities and wrong-doings. What the Chilcote Report is to Blair the forensic audits are to the PPP cabals.
The PPP leadership sold the Sanata Textile complex to Bobby Ramroop and included a huge water well, property of the State. The PPP permitted radio licenses to twelve recipients just before Jagdeo demitted office and one cannot point to any recipient in that group that was not cozy with the PPP administration. So are PPP leaders telling us that they acted in good faith when they were in power?
Are PPP intellectual defenders telling us that at the psychological level, these PPP kings and queens believe they were serving the interests of the people of Guyana?
The revelation by Mr. Insanally on the tape should not surprise anyone. Almost a hundred percent of the population who lived under Jagdeo and Ramotar knew that the framework both men used to distribute power was naked, crude, mordid, incestuousness. Unfortunately those radio license holders are still broadcasting and Mr. Alphonso has a letter from Luncheon to support his license.
