The murder of a Blue Berry Hill, Wismar man has left a family in mourning and a community in shock.
Dead is Delon Mark Stellingburg, 49, whose body was discovered early yesterday
morning, after a friend went to check on him.
The man’s body was reportedly found on a bed, with a slashed throat and a knife protruding from his chest.
A mosquito net was still draped around the bed, reports indicate.
According to report, Stellingburg had not been seen for a few days, which prompted the friend to go check on him.
After the gruesome discovery, several residents gathered in front of the dead man’s house and the police were called in.
Stellingburg who worked with the Guyana Geological and Mines Commission (GGMC) often travelled to the interior. He recently returned from one of those trips according to a neighbour.
There are reports that the man’s house had been broken into several times. He lived alone and the house would be left unattended when he travelled to the interior.
According to police reports, Stellingburg’s body was found around 06:00hrs with multiple stab wounds.
Stellingburg, who lived alone, was found by a friend, Cyril (only name given). Neighbours claimed that they heard no unusual noise or anything to suggest something was amiss. One neighbour said, “Every morning is either Delon does go and wake up Cyril or Cyril does wake he up. So is Cyril who go and find he. “
This publication was informed that Stellingburg’s siblings and mother live in the USA. One of his sisters, who was here on vacation, returned to the US yesterday.
Stellingburg was described by neighbours as a very friendly and jovial person.
Neighbours claimed that there was no unusual activity at the house, but observed that a hammock that was usually slung on the man’s verandah was found by police in his backyard.
Stellingburg was the father of two sons. Police are investigating.
