At least five more witnesses are scheduled to testify in the Preliminary Inquiry (PI) into the murder of Berbice businessman, Shameer Ali Mursalin.
The matter which is ongoing at the Magistrates’ Court at Springlands, East Berbice, Corentyne, was yet again adjourned to a later date.
Mursalin, called ‘Kazo,’ a trader, of Grant 1805 Weld Tank Dam, Crabwood Creek, Berbice Corentyne, in Region Six, was fatally shot, reportedly following a longstanding dispute with a fellow businessman, on October 24, 2015.
Berbice trader Dennis Veerasammy, called “Diggles” and two of his employees, Basheer Harrinauth and Delroy Fraser, were arrested and charged. They are before the court for the murder.
The matter was briefly called yesterday before Magistrate Rabindranauth Singh, but was stood down until afternoon. By the time the matter was recalled, Magistrate Singh noted that time would not permit him to take the evidence of the three witnesses that were present.
The witnesses included Tameshwarie Kishore called “Sunita,” the sister of the deceased, and two police witnesses. Some of the witnesses expressed frustration at the adjournment, citing that they had travelled all the way from Georgetown to give evidence in the PI.
The matter is expected to continue on October 24.
