Rose Hall Town Pepsi crush Young Achievers by innings and 33 runs
-advance to semi-finals
The Rose Hall Town Pepsi Under-19 teams crushed Young Achievers of West Berbice by an innings and 33 runs to advance into semi-finals of the Berbice Cricket Board/New York Business Group Under-19 two innings Cricket Tournament. The Quarterfinals was scheduled for two days at the Area ‘H’ Ground but was completed in one day.
RHT Pepsi won the toss in steaming heat and invited Young Achievers to take first strike.
The visitors were bowled out for 90 as only Rickey Daniels 29, Berbice Under-19 player Randy Wade 17 and Titus Webster 16 reached double figures. Bowling for Rose Hall Town Pepsi, off spinner Brandon Corlette took 3 wickets for 7 runs, skipper Brandon Prashad 2 for 6, Junior Sinclair 2 for 22 and medium pacer David Prahalad 1 for 8.
In response RHT Pepsi lost opener Surendra Budhoo, bowled for 03 by pacer Titus Webster at 11 for 1, but prolific opener Junior Sinclair and Brandon Prashad added 70 for the second wicket before Prashad was caught at mid-off for a well-played 28 off the bowling of T. Carmichael. Sinclair was then joined by Keith Simpson and together they shared a 65 runs partnership before Sinclair was dismissed for an attractive 57 from 83 balls with nine boundaries. Simpson 41 not out and Sylus Tyndall 15 not out were together when the home team declared at 181 for 3 with a lead of 91 runs.
Batting a second time with 33 overs remaining in the day’s play, the Young Achievers batsmen failed to apply them and were dismissed for 58 off just 19.4 overs. Titus Webster was the only batsman to offer resistance with an aggressive 27 as pacer Sylus Tyndall took 2 for 6, while off spinners Joel Pike 2 for 10, Junior Sinclair 2 for 11 and Joshua Gobin 2 for 13 also bowled well.
The Rose Hall Pepsi Under-19 would play their semi-finals match on 22nd and 23rd of October.
