Top cyclists go after one ounce of gold first prize
One year has passed and now the nation’s top cyclists are getting ready to once again throw down the gauntlet when the Flying Stars Cycling Club stages the 5th Annual Mohamed Kadir Ounce of Gold cycle road race this Sunday, October 16.
The eagerly anticipated event has been a key component on the yearly cycling agenda of the club and has attracted some of the top guns ever since its inauguration.
The race will be competed in five categories, Open, Juniors, two categories of veterans (Under and over 45 years old) and Juveniles.
The riders will assemble at the old Ministry of Housing building, Homestretch Avenue, to facilitate an early start at 07:30hrs. The Seniors, Juniors and Veterans (U-45 years) will proceed to Dora, Linden Soesdyke Highway before turning back while Veterans over 45, juveniles and mountain bikers would culminate their upward journey to the hill after the Splashmins Fun Park before retracing their wheels.
The overall winner would cart off one ounce of gold, while other categories of winners will receive other lucrative prizes.
The respective defending champions are Raynauth Jeffery (Open), Andrew Hicks (Junior), Horace Burrows (Veterans U-25), Ian Jackson (Veterans over 25) and Deeraj Ghobaran (Juvenile).
