Dear Editor;
I am a member of NBS and since 2007, I was following the charges on the CEO Maurice Arjoon and the two managers, Kent Vincent and Kissoon Baldeo.
I was at the infamous special meeting of September 2007 where the NBS members wanted to vote but a certain office holder adjourned the meeting and next thing we heard the Law changed so that we can no longer call a special meeting so I wonder, are those Directors there for life?
But coming back to the CEO and Managers I could not understand why it took 5 years for them to be cleared in court when there was no evidence against them.
Then came the Ombudsman’s report 2 years ago but ignored by President Ramotar for reasons I can only assume is because of what the Ombudsman revealed about a certain NBS Director and former President Jagdeo.
I recall distinctly then opposition AFC and APNU members were very vociferous about what that report showed, and called for justice for the victims.
Now what I cannot understand is why under the Coalition Government the Ombudsman’s report has not been addressed as yet.
At his funeral, the Hon. Moses Nagamootoo said ( KN of Sep 24) the Ombudsman is “an official who is appointed to receive and investigate complaints of abuses and capricious acts of public officials” and who is “expected to achieve equitable settlements”— is testimony to his character; to the perception of his honesty, fairness and to his ability to dispense justice.”
My question to the Hon PM is: Why no Justice dispensed to Messrs Arjoon, Vincent and Baldeo after 9 years since their lives were turned upside down? Why couldn’t the justice be dispensed while the Ombudsman was alive? Why is there no further investigation on the actions of the DPP Shalimar Hack and Nanda Gopaul etc. as reported by the Ombudsman? Will the Hon PM or anyone in the Government please advice?
Ravi Kissoon
