Newly accredited Women Candidate Master (WCM), Sheriffa Ali enjoyed a good day, commencing her trek with a decisive victory over Jaden Taylor in the 2nd round during the morning session before replicating the feat over John Wong in the 3rd round to accrue 3 points and lead the standing when the Guyana Chess Federation National Junior Qualifiers Tournament continued at the National Resource Centre, Woolford Avenue, yesterday afternoon. .
Roberto Neto continued his winning ways with a second round defeat over Joshua Gopaul but suffered a slight setback when his game against Saeed Ali ended in a draw; he is now on 2 ½ points the same as Ali who had earlier defeated Ghasham Allijohn in the morning sessions.
Several players are on 2 points including Jessica Callender who lost during yesterday morning’s sessions to John Wong but rebounded with a win over Nellisha Johnson, Joshua Gopaul, who lost to Neto in the morning sessions but went on to win from Aleem Baseer. Wong then faltered with a 3rd round loss to Sherriffa Ali.
Akili Theophil won his game yesterday morning from Shivranie Persaud and replicated the feat against Aravinda Singh. The latter player had earlier won his first game to Asiyah Bacchus and remains on 1 point.
The other players on 2 points are Ghasham Allijohn who lost his first game yesterday to Saeed Ali but rebounded with a victory over Asiyah Bacchus. Jaden Taylor then lost his second round game to Sheriffa Ali but compensated with a win over Waveney Johnson one round later.
Aravinda Singh is on 1 point after winning his first game to Asiyah Bacchus and losing his second to Akili Theophil. The other players on one point are Kristoff Persaud, Aravinda Singh, Aleem Baseer, Waveney Johnson, Nellisha Johnson, Asiyah Bacchus and Anthony Johnson.
Activities continue next week Saturday with two rounds while rounds six and seven will be played on Sunday.
