With just a few days to go before race day the Port Mourant “Big Yard” Turf Club has once again become a hive of activity as preparations have reached its pinnacle for Inaugural ‘Best of the Best’ President Cup horserace meet, which is slated for this Sunday.
The event which is organised by the Port Mourant Turf Club in collaboration with the Jumbo Jet Auto Sales and the KP Jagdeo Construction Company has been herald as a rematch of the recently held Real President Cup Horserace meet.
Already an overwhelming amount of support has been pouring in with over 75 horses entered for the eight race meet.
The G1 and lower event has now been upgraded to an F3 and lower race, while the I3 and lower race will now be a race for I2 and lower and J class horses.
With the feature A and lower 1500M event attracting a large field of the best runners in the country, the event is expected to be keenly contested. With no animal dominating at the moment the field is wide open with animals such as Princess She Not and Lady Budapest, being in the winners’ row of recent with double wins.
Princess She Not won both the Guyana Cup and Real President Cup in convincing fashion, while the ever improving Lady Budapest took care of business by winning the two co-feature events at the KMTC Post Emancipation meet a week ago. Both animals will be looking to assert themselves.
Animals such as CP Got Even and Just Call Me Bass has dominated for lengthy periods with the likes of Plum Plum, Golden Blue Ecko, Jack in My Style and Keep On Swinging among the others confirmed to race for the bulky $1.5M along with the Best of the Best President Cup from a total package of $3M.
There is an event for D3 maiden and E and lower horses over 1200M for a first prize of $800,000 and trophy. The 3 year old event is for Guyana Bred horses over 1200M for a winning take of $400,000 and trophy. Animals classified F and lower will compete over 1700M for a take home of $400,000 and trophy.
The winner of the H3 maiden and I and lower 1300M gallop will race away with the $260,000 first prize and trophy.
The two years old Guyana and West Indies Bred horses will have an opportunity to clash for the $260,000 first prize and trophy over 1100M.
The animals running in the 12 and J class and lower 1500M event will have a chance to pocket the $200,000 and trophy.
The final event will be for animals classified L and lower over 1100M for $140,000 and trophy.
Other top animals entered to participate in the day’s action so far are Right to Rule, Red and Lovely, Light Up Canada, Awesome Cash, Red Rocket, Isn’t She Charming, Bigman Bass and Cat Messiah among others.
Outstanding jockeys, trainers and stable will be presented with incentives compliments of Trophy Stall and the organisers.
