Two brothers are likely to be charged soon for the murder of 76-year-old David Ramkissoon, who was found with his throat slit in his Better Hope, East Coast Demerara (ECD) home on August 21, last.
A police official said that the siblings are ‘cooperating’ with investigators, who are trying to locate two other suspects.
Police are likely to seek legal advice on the case.
Reports last week indicated that the siblings admitted to being present when an accomplice killed Ramkissoon, during what they described as “a normal day at work.”
The police are yet to track down the alleged accomplice, who reportedly resides in Better Hope and who reportedly planned the robbery.
The killers are said to have carted off at least $1M.
Yesterday, some of the slain pensioner’s relatives called for his killers to suffer the full brunt of the law.
Ramkissoon’s daughter-in-law, Gayatree said that they were all relieved when they heard that the pensioner’s killers were finally caught.
Relatives are now calling on the police to capture the third individual.
They pointed out that the robbers could have spared the pensioner’s life after taking his valuables.
Meanwhile, the sister of two suspects alleged that police beat one of her brothers to confess and to sign a statement.
The woman, Melissa Isaacs, said that Godfrey Gill, 22 and Gregory Gill, 25, were arrested at Vryheid Lust, East Coast Demerara last Friday morning. She said that the family has since retained the services of an attorney.
“Police beat Godfrey and refused to carry him to the hospital. I am concerned about the beating…What if he dies? I don’t have a problem with police or whoever accusing my brother. They can’t give the man family justice if my brother dies”, the sister said.
According to reports, Ramkissoon had just got home after purchasing alcohol from a nearby shop when the men stormed his place.
The self-confessed thieves said they entered through the back door which Ramkissoon had left open and immediately started ransacking the house while “Shawn” went into the pensioner’s bedroom and held him down as he was lying on his bed.
It was while the siblings were searching for valuables that the third accomplice allegedly murdered the 76-year-old man. “Shawn” reportedly told them that the pensioner was “fighting up” too much when he slit his throat.
They then escaped with whatever jewellery and money they had found.
The body of David Ramkissoon, also called “Shortman”, a father of five, was discovered in a pool of blood in the living room by his son, around 19:30 hrs on August 21, last.
His son had just returned home after spending the day at a creek on the Soesdyke/ Linden Highway with his family when he made the shocking discovery.
