Marlon Brown, a Jamaican National was yesterday placed on $60,000 bail, for allegedly over staying his time in Guyana, when he appeared before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.
It is alleged that Brown during May 4, 2012 to September 20, 2015, in Georgetown failed to comply with the law.
The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge.
Brown said that he came to Guyana to see his father a Guyanese national who is a dredge owner in the Interior.
Brown also claims that he was working on a house and the owner refused to pay him after the work was completed. He further stated that the individual then went to the police and reported him for being illegally in Guyana.
The Police Prosecutor stated that on September 18, the police arrested Brown at Block 22, Linden, after it was made known to them that he had overstayed his six- month period. Brown claimed he lost his passport.
The Police Prosecutor also said that Brown didn’t have any documents to show that he was legally in Guyana.
