A mother of five was sentenced to prison for 18 months for allegedly stealing $280,000 in cash from one Kurt Steel, when she appeared before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday.
It is alleged that on September 5, last, at Independence Boulevard, Malinda Beaton, 31, of 45 ‘A Field’, Sophia stole $280,000 cash from Steel after she had engaged him in sexual intercourse. She was not required to plead to the indictable offence.
The Police Prosecutor said the virtual complainant (VC) and the defendant are known to each other since September 4, and the defendant removed the said money from the tenants’ apartment, after she spent the night at his house at 237 Independence Boulevard.
Steel claimed that he had the money in his pants pocket, but when he checked for the money it had disappeared. He then made a report to the police station.
Beaton was later contacted and admitted to stealing the money which was never recovered.
Beaton, stated that on the day in question she and Steel went for a walk and on returning to his apartment, she told him she had a cellular phone to sell for $6000. Steel said that he told Beaton he would give her the money in exchanged for sex to which she agreed.
He told me “All my girls does have to give me bamzie.’’
When the virtual complaint fell asleep “I took the money and leave because I have my five children to feed.”
