The Athletics Association of Guyana (AAG) has named Guyana’s representative team ahead of the October 20-24 Inter-Guiana ‘Goodwill’ Games, which Guyana will host at the National Track and Field Centre at Leonora.
The team is a combination of some experienced campaigners on the national and regional junior circuit and some newcomers. Double CARIFTA Games silver medalist, Chantoba Bright among Commonwealth Games junior finalist, Compton Caesar, female sprint phenoms, Kenisha Phillips and Avon Samuels are expected to lead the team.
Caesar and Tyrell Peters were identified for the male 100m and 200m events with Phillips and Onasha Rogers in the female 100m and Phillips and Deshawna Skeete in the 200m. Newcomers to the national scene, Laurindo Prince and Stayon Wilson will compete in the male 400m while Skeete returns with Samuels in the female 400m race.
Prince and Anfernee Headecker were identified for the 800m with Headecker coming back for the 1500m along with Odwin Tudor, who will also run the 5000m with Delroy Leitch. The lanky Joanna Archer competes in the Girls 800m and 1500m for Guyana with Kezra Murray in the 800m and Shaka Tyrell in the 1500m. Tyrell and Tbitha Bowman will team up for battle in the Girls 3000m.
Meanwhile, in the field events, Bright will be looking to extend her dominance in the Long and Triple Jump contests. Khalni Griffith will join her in both events. Lloyd McCurdy and Tramaine Brown will compete in the Boys’ Long and Triple Jumps. The duo was also identified for Boys’ Javelin Throw.
Jamacia Scott and Andriska Mickle were named for the Shot Put, Discus and Javelin Throws for Girls while Alvin George and Jermaine Simmons will compete in the Boys’ Shot Put and Discus. Daniel Williams and Osafa Profit got the nod for the High Jump with Irie Cadogan and Tatyanna Blair competing in the Girls’ version.
