Dear Editor,
The Guyanese public continues to see a PPP/C coordinated attacks on both SARU and SOCU. The leaders of the PPP/C are in overdrive in their attempts to deceive and confuse the public about the powers and scope of these two Units.
However, the average struggling Guyanese understands that the wholesale theft of the Government’s resources by some in the former administration has kept most of the people poor and the country in the state of underdevelopment in which it now finds itself. Further, the people should understand that those in the opposition who are against the legislation to make SARU a legal entity, are the ones who have benefited from the corrupt practices of the previous administration.
The Private Sector Commission (PSC) for example has no credibility what so ever. The PSC is one of the most shameless and spineless organizations. It does not have any concern for the plight of the poor and the powerless in society, only the rich and powerful. It continues to masquerade as defenders of the interest of the average person, which is further from the truth. In the opinion of most, the PSC is a greedy, selfish and rather unconcerned organization with no real interest in the development of the country.
SARU is not mandated to go after people who gained their wealth legitimately, but it will not be side tracked by the propaganda being peddled to the public by the PPP/C. The Bill offered by SARA was widely examined by competent legal minds and Agencies inside and outside of Guyana. The bill enjoys support from the ABC Countries and the EU. These are countries and organizations that have poured millions of their tax payers’ dollars into this country to help in its development. However, to their dismay the theft and corruption of the Jagdeo/Ramotor administration became so terrible that it was simply off the charts.
Contrary to the PPP propaganda, it is silly for its leaders to say that the Bill will scare away potential investors. In fact, investors will be more than happy to invest in Guyana where the playing field is level and that they do not have to pay bribes to get things done. Many Israeli business people have complained bitterly of the obstacles they faced in trying to do business in Guyana under the Jagdeo/Ramotar government. The Israelis have actually given up due to the corrupt practices within the system.
A group of business people from Malaysia who invested millions of US dollars to start a business also met with the same fate under the PPP regime. With all the extra judicial killings and wholesale racism what took place under the PPPC. Where was the PSC? SARA has pledged to protect the interest of all Guyanese and would help the nation retrieve the money, properties and resources which were allegedly stolen by some in the last regime.
