The police in Berbice are taking a proactive stance to make the community a better
place.
Berbice Divisional Commander, Assistant Commissioner Ian Amsterdam, responded to a call for more assistance to help clean up the surroundings.
The call came from the Regional Administration, the Neighborhood Democratic Council (NDC) and the business community.
The police are not just talking, but doing, Amsterdam said. They are not sitting back and waiting for things to be done, but are taking the lead role in organising self-help activities, he added.
They are involved in clearing the big bush and organising activities in the surrounding communities.
Recently ranks of the Springlands Police Station organised the neighborhood police, Line Path Community group as well as residents of Line Path D area to clear a large area at Line Path D Skeldon, Corentyne, Berbice.
Large clumps of bushes were cut down and drains were cleared and dug along the Shake Colbert area at Line Path D, according to the Officer in Charge of the Springlands Police Station, Assistant Superintendent Parks.
The project was put together to enhance the relationship between the police and community members of the Line Path Skeldon area.
According to Parks, the aim was to beautify the community and help in the reduction of crime.
Assistant Superintendent Parks and Inspector Qwesi Gravesande also thanked the residence for coming out and giving support to the project which will enhance the fight against crime, which certainly will make the community a better place.
