40th NSC Teach Them Young Prog. conclude
The 40th edition of the annual Hassan Mohamed Teach Them Young 8-weeks cycle
programme, sponsored by the National Sports Commission (NSC) recently concluded and according to the man behind the development of the sport in Guyana, it was a success.
It is also customary for the past ten (10) years that one of the participants in need is presented with one BMX bicycle and helmet compliments of Ricks and Sari Agro Industries Ltd.
This year the beneficiary of this gift was young Berbician, Shay Sue Hang who received same on Saturday last during the presentation ceremony of the 16th annual Degree National Park 11-Race Cycle Meet sponsored by De Sinco Ltd.
Mohamed informed the gathering that the management and staff of Ricks and Sari Agro Industries Ltd. was pleased to continue the tradition of rewarding a cyclist in need at the end of the programme.
While expressing gratitude to all the participants and the NSC, Mohamed noted that this year’s programme was hard hit by the rain as well as the inability of many to afford cycles and helmets.
He noted that the average turnout was around 20-cyclists, citing that many potential participants were of the view that they would have been provided with cycles when they turned up. Despite the low numbers, Mohamed said that the programme served its purpose and continues to be the foundation for the sports development in Guyana.
It has been running consistently unhindered for the past 40 years will all of the current riders from youth to veterans, being a product of the programme.
