Former sprint champion, now Apostle of Life Spring Ministries and playing golf for under three years, Balgobin Ragnauth golfed in fine style to be the clear winner of the tournament from Household Plus and Regent Household Electronics that lived up to its expectations.
Teeing off at 1:00pm the golfers were eager to perform excellently having had a tournament practice the previous Saturday where the top 10 were close leaving persons eager to emerge champs.
Managers Nasser Hamid and Shaheed Hamid of Household Plus (Lot 131 Regent Road, Bourda, between Cummings St and Orange Walk, Tel:226-3786) and Regent Household Electronics (Lot 143 Regent Road, Bourda – between Light & Albert Streets, Tel:231-7684, 227-4402) represented at the prize-giving ceremony by Past-President Brian Hackett, indicated their happiness at being involved and their willingness to continue sponsoring tournaments at the Lusignan Golf Club. Mr Hackett reminded members that between the two stores – both in business for over 20 years – there is a wide variety of Household, Electronics, Clothing and Cosmetics available.
Winners of the tournament were Net Scores:- 1st Balgobin Ramnauth – 63/91; 2nd Patanjalee ‘Pur’ “I love that winning feeling” Persaud; 3rd – Pandit Ravi Persaud 70/ ; 4th Brian Hackett 71/91 who on the back 9 edged out Grounds Superintendent M. Gayadin 71/84. Best Gross was won by Imran Khan and Nearest (10ft) To the Pin by Ian Gouveia – who both won the same prizes at the previous Saturday’s tournament. Other golfers in contention in the day’s top 12 were (Pope Emmanuel) Dr P. London 72/98; A. Shaw 72/90; S. Webster 73/92; F. Haniff 73/87; I. Khan 74/81; M. Bhagwandin 75/97; I. Gouveia 75/92; A. Hussain 75/92; Max Persaud 75/89 and R. Rajkumar 75/83.
Vice President Patrick Prashad, acting as the day’s Captain, requested that Club members observe a 1-minute’s silence to observe the passing of Dr Samuel Bera who, as the President informed subsequently, had been a member of the Club for several years and had been very active prior to 2000. President Ramroop extended deepest condolences to the late Dr Bera’s family and friends, on behalf of the LGC and himself.
President welcomed back Roger Rajkumar & Prem Ramnauth and expressed gratitude for the satisfactory press releases by the PRO.
