Nandlall says Rodney family wanted no role for the WPA

Editor’ note; because of its length, we publish the concluding section of Mr. Nandlall’s letter carried in our edition yesterday
Expectedly, the PNC would never be comfortable with and would always be critical of any thorough and competent Commission of Inquiry into Dr. Rodney’s death. The findings would, naturally, be damaging to them. As a result, the APNU was critical of every component of the Commission: the terms of Reference; the Commissioners; the evidence, the witnesses and the findings. In the same vein, it was easy to predict and expect that the Rodney’s family would find the PNC participation in the establishment of such a Commission, objectionable. They did. Likewise, a similar posture was adopted in relation to the WPA, which by that time, had already entered into the political bed with the PNC.
What I have written here and what I have said in the National Assembly that night is the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth. This is exactly what I will recite before any privileges committee to which I may be summoned. Only Mrs. Rodney’s word in my presence before that committee can contradict me. Even if she does, it does not mean that what I said is untrue.
I will produce emails and other pieces of evidence to vindicate my assertions. I wish the Attorney-General well in securing Mrs. Rodney’s presence and getting her to contradict me in that committee. Needlessly to say, that the Attorney-General is hereby assured that I will not be silenced by threats and intimidation. I am made of sterner stuff. I will continue to discharge my responsibility to the people of this country without fear or favour. It is amazing that thirty-six (36) years after his death, Dr. Walter Rodney can still evoke the wrath of the authoritarian. Without more, it speaks to the measure of the man. He was only thirty-eight (38) years old. Imagine if he was allowed a full life.
