As Bartica continues to grapple with power outages following the failures of two engines, Government is asking for residents there to be patient.
Yesterday, the Ministry of Public Infrastructure said that it is lending support to the Guyana Power and Light Inc. (GPL) to speed up the process of bringing up the engines back into operation.
According to the ministry, it has been briefed by the utility company and is placing special attention on Bartica’s situation, with “measures being put in place to remedy it as quickly as possible”.
The failure of two of GPL’s engines in Bartica has led to an untenable situation and the Ministry will assist where possible, a statement said.
“Additionally, the Ministers of Public Infrastructure seek the understanding and patience of the residents of Bartica while a major overhaul, expected for completion by September 17, is underway.”
The Ministry said it apologises for the inconveniences the mining community is experiencing.
Bartica is located up the Essequibo River, in Region Seven and is a main gateway to the mining and logging areas.
Last week, GPL said that it is rushing a generating unit to the area to help stabilise the power supply.
Residents are currently facing scheduled blackouts as the repair works continue.
