Under an overcast sky and in windy conditions at Turu Mission in Port Kaituma, Region
one, Matarkai Sports Committee concluded its first Super Six Male and Female Tape and softball competitions under the Theme” Say No to Human Trafficking” in grand style.
Witnessed by a fair sized crowd including the Regional Chairman, Mr. Brentnol Ashley and Regional Engineer, Mr. Raul Boyer who declared the games opened, Canal Bank and Oronoque won the male tapeball and female softball finals respectively.
Canal Bank defeated Oronoque by five wickets and one over to spare in the tapeball final. Oronoque batted first and managed 45-5 off their allotted six overs with Abdool Farook scoring 15 and Jude Melville 10. Guywin James had 3-10 including a hat-trick, while Anthony Coyers took 2-2 and Sampson James 1-3. Canal Bank responded with 46-5. Coyers and Troy James made 14 apiece; Andy Mc Lennon snared 3-15 and Rob Blair 1-6. Coyers was named man-of-the-match.
Oronoque tasted success in the female softball final, beating Sebai by six runs. Oronoque took first strike and posted 51-3 in six overs. Pinky Lowe got 15 and Lovia Mendonca 10. Alana
Benjamin claimed 2-8. Sebai responded with 45-2 with player of the match Sylvia Benjamin scoring 22.
