Dear Editor,
In response to the letter titled: “Roxanne Burnham -Van West Charles writes on Lear Goring,” May I offer the following comments. Linden Forbes Sampson Burnham NEVER received a mandate from the PEOPLE of Guyana to govern the said country. That mandate was awarded to a coalition of the PNC-UF parties. By default, the people of Guyana, in 1964, gave that mandate jointly to Forbes Burnham and Peter D’Aguiar, as leaders of their respective parties.
May I quote Roxanne, “He that is without sin cast the first stone.” Since we are all born in sin, then we all have at least one sin, which was committed for us. How appropriate! But, at least we can ponder, “At whom, and for what may stones be cast, may I ask?” If it is at Forbes and for his sins, then that would consume all of the stones in all of the quarries in all of Guyana. Since Mr. Burnham departed, Roxanne claims she has had a life of extremely low profile; however, the name Roxanne Burnham Gardens has not been such a low profile, nor has Melanie Damishana and Linden.
Mr. Burnham has left quite a legacy, of which Roxanne must be quite proud. Wouldn’t it be appropriate for Roxanne to grace her Gardens here with her residence? And for Melanie to reside in Melanie Damishana and not Florida. What Roxanne has not addressed are the consequences of Mr. Goring’s drug dealing. How many lives have been consumed by the drugs Mr. Goring peddled? How many Black children went to a cold bed without food, because their parent(s) spent the money on Mr. Goring’s drugs instead of heat and food?
Ms. Roxanne Burnham – Van West-Charles may be informed that I spent more than a decade as, officially, a teacher, but actually, managing all aspects of all the technology in a district of an alternate high school, in New York City and I am quite aware of what drugs did to many lives. The school catered to students, 16-24 years old, who were drop-outs. Most of the young men had been in trouble with the law. I wonder how many of the students were caught with Mr. Goring’s drugs. Finally, the message, which Roxanne is promoting is, “Crime pays and pay handsomely.”

So if you were so concerned about drugs involving Guyanese reaching the kids you taught, where was your outrage when the PPP was harboring one of the most notorious drug trafficker in Guyana. Apparently you are offended based on who is involved in drugs.
Again we see this these obtuse and hypocritical rantings from people who apparently assume that their audience is the same little circle bound together by a common affinity with the trait of deceit. I proposed a while back that George Orwell must have developed the capacity for time travel back in the day. For the similarities and behavior resemblances between his porcine characters and some Guyanese today are too lividly close to be a product of coincidence.
