the cost of school materials, some parents are still finding it exceedingly difficult to adequately outfit their children with the requisite clothing plus school supplies.
It is for this reason that Chief Executive officer of NexGen Global Promotions of 197 Cummings Street Georgetown, Aleem Hussain, joined with former WBC Fecarbox welterweight champion, Dexter Gonsalves, to support more than a dozen children in their quest to acquire a sound education.
Yesterday afternoon, two representatives of NexGen Global Promotions, President, Wendy Butts and Sunita Farouk, deputized for Hussain and presented the children, all boxers out of the Forgotten Youth Foundation (FYF), with the much needed items which included books, geometry sets, schoolbags, pencils and erasers among other items.
Ms Butts said that the gift was an idea of her boss, Aleem Hussain, who nurtured genuine concern for the youngsters’ development. She said that ever since his entrance into the sport, her boss has demonstrated care and concern for the boxers and plans to continue in this vein.
Mr. Gonsalves noted that boxers are always stigmatized and categorized as uneducated and he views the act as the first step to remedying the situation. He urged the youths to take full advantage of the opportunity to better themselves academically even as they continue to develop their boxing skills.
Coach of the FYF, Sebert Blake extended heartfelt gratitude to his benefactors and urged the recipients to take full advantage of the opportunities presented for their advancement. “Education is the key to success and we are indeed thankful for this gift of life,” said Blake. He promised to continue working with the youths towards their educational aspirations.
