Six days after two small children died in a boat crash in the Waini River, another boat mishap has
claimed the life of a Lower Pomeroon man.
Rayan De Freitas, 29, perished at around 19.35 hrs on Wednesday after a metal boat collided with his vessel in the Lower Pomeroon River.
According to reports, De Freitas, accompanied by his cousin, Felix de Freitas, and Ray Marks, 14, was traversing the Lower Pomeroon River near Grant Burn Bush, when another vessel, manned by a 34-year-old boat builder, who was transporting his wife, Afeeza Bibi Amin and their three- year-old daughter, collided with De Freitas’ craft.
De Freitas sustained head injuries and succumbed shortly after.
Police stated that the other boat operator, who has been detained, failed a
breathalyser test.
Meanwhile, police at Port Kaituma are investigating another boat collision which occurred between 13.00 hrs and 14.00 hrs on Wednesday. Police said that some passengers in one of the vessels were injured.
